If you are suffering with a wart or verruca, sk:n offers safe and effective treatment that will remove the condition and restore soft and flawless skin.
We offer three different treatment types to remove warts and verrucae. The best treatment option for you will be confirmed by your doctor after a full assessment at your consultation.
Whichever treatment method is used, the procedure usually only takes a few minutes. An anaesthetic may be applied before removal but isn't always necessary, as there is minimal discomfort during the treatment. The healthy skin around your wart or verruca won’t be damaged.
At your consultation, your Doctor will advise which treatment is best for you.
A highly targeted beam of laser light is aimed at the wart or verruca. The energy from the laser heats up the blood vessels feeding the problem area, which collapse in on themselves as a result and stop the blood supply. This starves the wart or verruca of nutrients so it naturally falls off after a few weeks.
Even if your warts have failed to respond to other treatments in the past, you are very likely to enjoy great results with laser wart removal. Particularly stubborn warts may require 5 or more treatments, but it is very rare that a wart refuses to budge completely.
The wart or verrucae is carefully cut out using a surgical scalpel. The wart or verrucae is removed immediately in this treatment option.
This procedure can be done under local anaesthetic and will require a small stitch in the skin.
This treatment method involves using Liquid Nitrogen to freeze off the wart or verruca. This causes the cells to die and naturally fall off.
The cold temperature kills the cells within the wart or verruca, as well as constricting the blood supply.
Immediately after treatment the skin treated may be pink and tender for a few days. In some cases there may also be some blistering and you might need to keep it covered. Once the area has healed, you might notice some darkening of the skin where the wart or verruca used to be. This is temporary and the skin will go back to normal. Once the wart or verruca has been successfully treated, it will naturally dry up and fall off just as any other dead skin would.
The level of comfort depends on the removal technique recommended. Laser Removal is virtually pain free. In more sensitive areas, it is described as feeling like the flick of an elastic band. For Excision Removal and Cryotherapy, the area will be numbed with a local anaesthetic so you won’t feel anything. After treatment the skin left behind may be tender for a few days and will need to be covered. It’s also best to use a strong sunscreen on the area for six months, as it will be more sensitive to sunlight.
Although you may feel some mild discomfort, the laser does not generally cause any pain. Sometimes, patients with sensitive skin benefit from the use of anaesthetic cream to numb the area during treatment.
You can have a wart or verruca removed from anywhere on your body. Our doctors have years of experience removing them from faces and sensitive and hard to reach places. We will choose the right removal method according to the area to be treated, in order to achieve the best possible results.
The wart removal treatment at sk:n uses a Pulsed Dye laser to target and destroy it without damaging the healthy skin around it. The laser cuts off the blood supply to the wart, thus safely taking the wart out of the picture.
The same wart or verruca will not grow back. Although if the virus that caused the wart or verruca is still active in your body, there is a possibility that new warts or verrucae may grow.
The number of treatments required to permanently remove your warts or verrucae are dependent on the size, location and number you may have. Many respond well and may only need one treatment to be completely removed, although particularly deep and stubborn warts or verrucae could need four or more treatments. During your consultation, your doctor will discuss your particular case, the number of treatments you will need and the results you can expect to see.
Our treatments are carried out by trained specialists in dermatology and are much more effective than home remedies available over the counter. Even stubborn warts and verrucae that haven’t responded to previous treatments can be easily treated using laser removal, although particularly deep and stubborn warts or verrucae may need multiple treatments.
Our lasers are able to penetrate deeper into the dermis to target the blood vessels feeding a stubborn wart or verruca, making treatment more successful. In cases where the wart or verruca is too deeply rooted for laser treatment to be effective, our doctors are able to surgically remove it in our hospital minor surgery theatre standard treatment rooms.
